About Kirk Bonds
Born 1947 in Fort Worth, Texas. Moved to Midland/Odessa in 1959. Attended Odessa Junior College, the Univ. of Texas @ Arlington. Studied aerospace engineering for four years but switched to English and Comparative Literature when NASA started laying off the year I graduated with a BA in 1971. Moved to a commune in California, and then traveled to Europe where I spent a year apprenticing in furniture making. Spent many years as a custom, one off furniture maker in Dallas, Austin, Santa Fe/Taos, Sonoma/San Francisco. In 1988 went to work for Walt Disney Imagineering in Glendale, CA as a Production Designer. Spent 10 years there as a Production Designer and Senior Dimensional Designer, all the while being trained on Mac's in graphic design, 3D modeling and computer animation. On the board of Disney's MUG and member of WDI's tiger team. These days I have 3 work stations and enjoy working with digital images. Moved from LA back to Las Vegas, NM in 1998. I am still making furniture and working hard on digital art. To a large extent I focus on the Southwest and New Mexico. I have been here pretty consistently since 1957. So, a lot of regional influence is at play. In August of 2021, I relocated to Tucson, Arizona.
